Who: The Geneva-based designer Josefina Muñoz specialises in short series of high-end crafted objects.
When: Muñoz’s works were shown in 2018 at TRANS-FORM at Mint Shop gallery at the London Design Festival; the Ecal exhibition; The Mass in Tokyo; and GAME OF STONE for recycled stones, Salone del Mobile, Milan. In 2017 she was selected for the Rong Library designer research residence in Hangzhou, China. In 2016 she exhibited at “De Mains de Maîtres” at the BCEE Building, Luxembourg, the “Brazille-Muñoz Exhibition” at the AAD gallery, Geneva, and “I Dream of Luxury” at the Gallery Rosana Orlandi, Salone del Mobile, Milan.
Where: Originally from Argentina, she has a master’s of advanced studies in design for luxury and craftsmanship from ECAL, Lausanne, and a bachelor’s in product design from the Escola Llotja arts and design school, Barcelona, Spain.
What: Based on a specific technique of mixing ashes, the vase collection The Soul of Black Clay came out of a collaboration with Shu Shifu, a ceramist based in Yingjing, during Muñoz’s research residency at Rong Library in 2017.
In 2017, together with stone sculptor Moro Serizzo, Muñoz developed a series of furniture pieces made of recycled stone. Since 2015 she has been working with ceramist Peter Fink to develop a series of containers, vases and perfume bottles based on smooth and cracked ceramic surfaces.
